Caledonia Public Library Report

The past year has been very eventful for the Caledonia Public Library. After many months of planning a beautiful addition to the library, we were informed that we would be losing a large part of our operating funds for the 2011 year and possibly longer. It became very clear to us that our planned expansion would have to be set aside for the time being.

We are proud that the library has continued to increase patronage for some time. With the increasing types of media available, computers, school project materials, as well as books for reading pleasure, the library provides valuable resources for our citizens of every age. But, space is becoming of more concern for now and into the future.

Our desire is to guide the library onto firm financial ground so that the library expansion can be accomplished. The library would then be handicap accessible, have space available for all the varied activities and materials, and provide a first floor restroom. We regret that delaying this project may keep us from applying for a New York State Matching Library Construction Grant available this year but possibly will not be available in the future because of New York State’s fiscal problems.

Our Library Director Renate Goff, aide Sadie O’Deay, and the Board of Trustees are especially thankful for the wonderful expressions of support from our community. This support gives us impetus to explore whatever avenues available to insure that the Library will continue to provide our patrons with quality services into the future.
